The Intermountain Area has been experiencing a lot of late spring thunderstorms in the past few weeks, which has not hurt the fishing one bit! In fact, some days our guides have reported epic hatches during the downpours. The cooler than normal weather has kept the landscape lush and green, brought out an incredible wildflower bloom and generally made both fish and fishermen very happy!
The Hex hatch is beginning on Fall River. Check out the photo above to see what this monster mayfly looks like in the daylight! This annual hatch lasts from mid-June until late July and in our area, it happens only on Fall River. Hatching en masse right at dusk, these bright yellow, two inch bugs are like prime rib and lobster for hungry trout. If you've never fished the Hex hatch, it is an incredible, adrenaline filled experience, and one not to be missed!
Now is the time to make reservations for summer fly fishing trips at Clearwater Lodge. Don't buy into the old myth that warm summer days are bad for fly fishing! Our guides know the secret, summer can be one of the most productive times, as long as you know where to go! Mid-morning hatches on Fall River reach a zenith during August, and often you will be the only boat around!
Our schools are filling for July and August as well. Summer is the perfect time to learn to fly fish, or take your skills to the next level.
